Verna S. Smith of Wewahitchka passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011, in Panama City at the age of 89.
She was born November 17, 1921, to Fernie and Pansy Pearl (Pope) Stanley in Altha, Florida. She was retired from Florida National Bank in Port St. Joe where she served as vice president for many years. She was a member of Port St. Joe First Baptist Church and then Mexico Beach First Baptist Church before moving her membership to Wewahitchka First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel “J. D.” Smith; two brothers, Amos Stanley and Troy Stanley; and two sisters, Helen Love and Cressie Mae Stanley.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandie Eubanks and her husband, Mack, of Wewahitchka; four grandchildren, Shep Eubanks and his wife, Genea, Tammy Law, Cyndee Kelly and her husband, Mike, and Kristy James and her husband, Joe; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. CT, Tuesday, September 27, at Wewahitchka First Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Stroud officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. CT, Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow in Old Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Quincy.
Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may be made to the Wewahitchka First Baptist Church Building Fund, 436 Hwy. 71 S., Wewahitchka, Florida 32401.
Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown is in charge of the arrangements (phone 674-5449).
