Mr. James Pierson (Jim) Peacock, III, 78, of Deep Creek Lake, Oakland, Maryland, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011, in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Jim was born February 25, 1933, in Altha on a farm in Calhoun County, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents; James Pierson (J.P.) Peacock, Jr. and Vergie Bailey Peacock. He was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Altha High School in 1951 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Air Force. During this time, he was trained and served as an airplane mechanic. After he returned to civilian life, he worked at Graham Air Base in Jackson County, Florida. In the 1960s he moved to Maryland, near where he was stationed while in the Air Force at Friendship Airport, now known as Baltimore-Washington (BWI) Airport and remained in Maryland until his death. He was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland; two brothers; Robert P. Peacock of Damascus, Maryland, and David Peacock of Fountain, Florida; two sisters, Mary Lou Taylor and her husband, Darryl, of Blountstown, Florida, and Martha Hassell and her husband, Leonard, of Thomasville, Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial services was held in the Deep Creek Baptist Church in Oakland, Maryland, on Friday, August 26, under the direction of Burdock Funeral Home in Oakland, Maryland. A memorial service was held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 10, from the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Thomas officiating. Interment followed in the Chipola Cemetery in Altha, Florida, under the direction of the Peavy Funeral Home, Blountstown, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jim to the Family Life Building Fund, Deep Creek Baptist Church, 1941 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD 21550.
