Janice Moore, a teacher at Blountstown Middle School, has been awarded a $1,000 grant as a result of her winning submission to the "Creative Ideas from Our Teachers Contest".
Mrs. Moore’s contest winning idea will be featured in The Idea Book for Educators, published by A&E Television Networks, which recognizes creative uses of the networks’ programming as an innovative teaching tool. Only eight "Creative Ideas from Our Teachers Contest" grants are awarded each semester, out of thousands of applicants within the United States. The publication features AETN signature study guides to accompany primetime premier programming as well as educational campaigns sponsored by A&E HISTORY, Lifetime, and the Biography Channel.
Upon arriving in class, Mrs. Moore would have students watch the HISTORY Network program “This Day in History”, which reviews four events that happened in history on that day. Each video lasts for one minute and students were expected to use their note taking strategies to document what was reviewed in that days video. Students were rewarded when they were able to record all four events from the video. Not only did students practice their note taking skills, with Mrs. Moore's bell work, but they sharpened their history knowledge along the way.
