A local woman was arrested Monday following a hit and run accident earlier in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Blountstown.
Carol Jean Griffin, 52, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.
According to the Blountstown Police Department, Ofc. Caleb Tolbert responded to the grocery store at 3:30 p.m. after a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle that left the scene.
Dana Lee Caseman, 61, a local correctional officer, told authorities she was walking out of the Piggly Wiggly when she noticed a car pull out as if leaving the business. Caseman said she stopped and acknowledged the driver who seemed to be stopping to allow her to cross. However, the vehicle continued and struck her left side, knocking her to the ground where she hit her head.
She said the vehicle then ran over her right foot. A witness summoned his wife, a nurse, to assist Caseman. A blue Honda Accord with a gray haired driver was described by witnesses.
Later that evening, Griffin returned to the store and requested law enforcement. She told authorities her windows were foggy when she hit Caseman and she got scared when witnesses began yelling for her to pull over. She drove straight home, called a friend, told her what happened, then had the friend go with her to the store.
