The Altha FFA Chapters, as well as other Florida FFA members from across the State spent the day “on the hill” in Tallahassee visiting policymakers and sharing the FFA story. The event was sponsored by the Florida Association of Agricultural Educators, the Florida FFA Association and the Florida Association of Career and Technical Education.
These FFA members met with Commissioner Adam Putnam, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Representative Steve Crisafulli, Representative Seth McKeel, Representative Will Weatherford, Representative Ben Albritton, Representative Marti Coley and Representative Matt Hudson and Charlotte Emerson, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
“Ag on the Hill” provides FFA members the opportunity to become more familiar with the legislative process as well share the FFA story with their elected officials. In addition to the legislative visits, the group toured the Florida Senate Chamber, the Florida Capitol and heard presentation from Senate and House staff.
The Florida FFA Association was organized as the "Future Farmers of America" in 1929 and changed the name in 1988, to be consistent with the National organization and to reflect the broadening field of agriculture, which encompasses more than 300 careers in everything from biotechnology to communications to horticulture.
Today, over 15,000 agriscience students in Florida take advantage of the opportunities offered through the Florida FFA Association. The mission of FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
