The new year started off with tragedy for two families when blazes broke out at their homes.
The first fire started in the late afternoon hours of New Year’s Eve at the home of Willie Lewis on Hwy. 69 North. Firefighters from Nettle Ridge and Blountstown fire departments responded and found the south end of the mobile home fully engulfed. No one was home when the fire broke out and the cause has not been determined. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
The second fire occurred around 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day at the home of Dante and Latoria Ziggler on River Street. The couple, their two children and a cousin reside on the second floor of the home with the bottom floor vacant. Thankfully, no one was home at the time.
