Twenty four area children attended the 2010 Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Shining Star Day Camp last week.
They enjoyed arts and crafts classes taught by Calhoun County 4-H Director Whitney Cherry and classes on the dangers of tobacco taught by Pamela McDaniel and Dawn McDaniel from the Calhoun County SWAT program. Shellie King of the Liberty/Calhoun Family Nutrition Program taught classes on how to make healthy eating choices. Blountstown Fire Chief Ben Hall cooled the kids down with a good soaking from the fire truck.
Personnel from the Sheriff’s Office were on hand throughout the camp to meet and get to know the campers face to face. Ofc. Eddie Dalton stopped by with Gina, the department’s K-9 drug dog, and Ofc. Randy McCroan had the department’s helicopter on hand for the children to view. Sheriff David Tatum presented certificates to all the campers at the end of the three day camp.
